Take Me Out To The Ball Park

Last year I was fortunate enough to meet Noah & Logan Miller. They are identical twin brothers who live in Marin and have written an incredible story about their father, an atypical Marinite, whose story had to be told.

These incredibly talented young men wrote, directed and star in the film version of their story. The movie is called “Touching Home” and was premiered at the 2008 San Francisco International Film Festival. The film is wonderful - from the gorgeous photography to the heartfelt acting of Ed Harris, Lee Meriwether, Brad Dourif and the brothers - and leaves a lasting impression on the viewer.

The film is slated for general release later this year and to kick it off the brothers have written the ‘story of the story’  about how they finagled the making of the film. Fascinating stories of how they attracted major film stars, award-winning editors & cinematographers to their project and how they were able to persuade  major film star Ed Harris to participate in their independent film. Filmed in Marin with lots of local sites this movie is a must-see.

The kickoff party for the book is sure to be a blast . It’ll happen at AT&T ball park in San Francisco on June 6, 2009 at 7PM.  Check out the website at http://www.inorintheway.com/

Pre-order the book and receive to two free passes to the part at the ballpark. Admission is free for children under 12. So, get the book, read the fascinating story and let’s have a blast at the park.

If you pre-order the book please reference MRG on your order. Feel free to contact me for additional information.

Marin Musings–January 12, 2009

The sun came out Thursday afternoon after a gray week for us here, and we were blessed with a glorious weekend: sunny, clear and mild.” It’s hard to believe it is January.” Lou and I took our little car out to the Pt. Bonita Lighthouse on the Marin Headlands…the view is so gorgeous out there!” I love the sense of being at the very edge of the continent…

Although winter officially started less than a month ago, a few crazy plum and magnolia trees are starting to bloom around central Marin.” The hills are green and the deer finally have plenty to eat, the robins have arrived, and the red-tailed hawks are filling the sky with their cries.” Each day gets a little longer…you can’t miss the signs that spring will be with us soon.”

Hate to see Redwood High School divided over adoption of the International Baccalaureate Program.” We found Redwood to be such a great school, with committed and happy teachers and a calm and competent administration.” Hope things can be worked out amicably…

In spite of the frost through much of Marin this week, the first signs of Spring can already be seen as the camellias begin to bloom and the signs for Little League registration appear!  Check with www.marin.org for locally specific information on sign-ups.

The Marin Symphony Chorus has started work on the Dona Nobis Pacem of Ralph Vaughan-Williams.  This gorgeous work of about 40 minutes duration was composed during the lead-up to World War I with Biblical verses and devastating texts by Walt Whitman dating from the Civil War.  The act of learning to sing this piece with 120 other singers from Marin County, most of whom are volunteering their time, is humbling and thrilling.  Watch for more information about this work in concert with the Marin Symphony at www.marinsymphony.com.

Did you know a new law this year requires that, if you are using your windshield wipers, your headlights be on?  I just discovered this myself…
